Who We Are

AHSC was founded in 1959, our focus is to engage in dialogue about the most current scholarship and professional practices.

Art Historian. AHSC acknowledges that the field of art history is founded on pigmentocracy and colonialism. In an effort to uphold equitable values of inclusivity for all BIPOC scholars, we acknowledge that practicing art historians today have degrees from adjacent fields, and often occupy professional positions outside of academia. This space will from now on be inclusive of curators and artists, as well as Latinx, African American, Indigenous, Asian, Queer, and feminist aesthetic experts.

AHSC recognizes Southern California to include the following counties; Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Imperial, Riverside, San Bernardino, Kern, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura. Though AHSC is based in Southern California, it welcomes members and conversations that are also national and international.

AHSC is a CAA affiliate. Contact us to join our organization!
